Help Make Local 890 a National Historic Museum
Our trip to New Mexico was an exciting roadtrip! We caravaned across three states and managed to boycott Arizona as well. Well, except for the speeding ticket that my friend, Sal got. He got zapped with the cameras!
We played at a very nice venue that had an audience of over 300 people! We met some fantastic people including Dr. Maria Trillo from Casa de la Cultura and Georgina Ortega from Casa in Las Vegas, NM. We met some folks from NPR radio and hooked up with the Morning Show with Gwyn & Lori 88.1 FM.
We were honored to also play at the Juan Chacon Union Hall. We met some miners and important activists there, including Huetotel Lopez, who is fighting hard to help preserve the Juan Chacon Union Hall. We had the chance to tell/play our story and to listen to their stories---One miner who spoke is 94 yrs. old!
Be sure to check out www.juntosenlaunion.org to help support the Local 890 Union Hall and convert into a National Historic Museum of Mining History!
Thank you!

Best of 2009
Hello Everybody!
"Salt of the Earth" was featured on Vanessa Franko's Audiophile Blog as one of the year's best! I am so thrilled to be included on the list! There are so many talented artists in the Inland Empire alone. Cheers to Vanessa for putting local bands into the spotlight!
MOBETTA LORETTA "Salt of the Earth" Blues and roots artist Mobetta Loretta hit it out of the park with concept album "Salt of the Earth." It's based on the film of the same name and the story of her great aunt and uncle, which takes on civil rights and women's rights. The Redlands singer/songwriter spins the tale so well that the characters come to life from the speakers. Key tracks: "Entwined & In Kind," "Hey Main Street" On the Web: www.mobettaloretta.com See it live: 10 p.m. Dec. 31, The Palms, Wonder Valley

Capitol Records
I was so excited headed Northbound on the 101 to Capitol Records in Hollywood. After having obtained security clearance, I was allowed to enter the landmark, white, round building. The moment seemed surreal to me!
I knew that I was in for the royal treatment today! The walls were decorated with silver, gold and platinum records from artists such as the Beatles to Pink Floyd. I noticed a frame with one of my all time favorite albums, "All Things Must Pass" by George Harrison. As I walked the hallways in awe, I was greeted by Matt Graber, Supervisor, of Capitol Studios and Mastering.
Matt led me to studio one, where he introduced me to Mastering Engineer, Kevin Bartley. The equipment was state of the art. Kevin told me he had seventeen years experience at Capitol Records. But, he didn't look a day over 25! We listened to the mix together. Kevin sat in his chair, tweeking knobs and adjusting controls. We sat and visited.
I told him the story about the album, "Salt of the Earth." He realized that it was special to me because it was about my family roots. For the most part, Kevin left the mix natural sounding. He didn't want to add too much affect. He strove to keep the "loose snare" sounding real and left the Mobetta Loretta sound authentic.
Kevin was quiet and unassuming. He was such an easy-going guy. It was difficult to imagine his post-punk roots, when he used to play guitar and sing in a band named Sixtieth Parallel during the late eighties. I knew that I was in the hands of a Pro because he has mastered hundreds of recordings including Greatest Hits recordings by the Stray Cats, Social Distortion, Blondie, Ziggy Marley, UB40, B.B. King, Motorhead, The Smithereens, Billy Idol, Missing Persons, Sheena Easton, Pat Benatar, Gene Vincent & His Blue Caps, Dee Dee Ramone, Bauhaus, Brian Setzer, Merle Haggard and Dean Martin.
Led by Matt Graber, I was given a tour of the studios. The original consoles from the 60's are in great shape and are still used. I was told they lend a vintage, warm sound to the recordings, which is especially useful in this age of digital recordings. I even saw the original microphone used by Frank Sinatra in his famous recordings. It certainly was a day to remember! Thanks to Matt and Kevin for such great hospitality!

New Album Progress
The Mobetta Loretta Band has been working diligently at creating their debut album entitled, "Salt of the Earth" scheduled to be released by the end of the summer. The album will feature eleven songs rich with diverse blues, folk and rock influences. There are plenty of hooks and infectious choruses which should support a strong radio air-play presence.
The five piece band includes, Mobetta Loretta (vocals, guitar); Tubbs (drums); Klutz (bass guitar); Professor Steve (harmonica); and Guy James (guitar). The band debuted their official, first live performance together as a band on January 30, 2009.
The newly formed Mobetta Loretta Band sounds like it originated straight from the Delta blues mixed with classical rock influences such as Tom Petty, ELO, and George Harrison -- forming a southern-style rock band, rich with Americana blends.
"There was an immediate chemistry between our musical styles," says Mobetta Loretta. "We fused influences from Rock together with Folk and Blues to create our own unique sound. (The music) still has the Mo' Betta blues flavor."
Additionally, there will be special contributions from various artists on the album including: Geno (keyboards) from the former band the Boxkutters; Mia Mercado (background vocals) also known as BlueBird; the fantastic duo, Sal & Isela will feature their original "Mexican-American" style sound (background vocals); and the talented acoustic stylings of David Robinson (classical, flamenco guitar).
